Democratic Senators from New York Daniel Moynihan and Alfonse D’Amato criticized the president for using the line-item veto on a particular portion of the budget bill. This portion reimbursed New York for disputed Medicaid claims. The two senators introduced a bill to overturn the president’s decision. Senator Moynihan also expressed his opposition to the idea of a line-item veto. Congress had thirty days to pass a bill to override his veto. close
