Senator Paul Wellstone (D-MN) talked about problems associated with poverty, race and gender. The Senator gave the speech during a poverty tour modeled after the anti-poverty efforts of the late Senator Robert F. Kennedy to illustrate the effect poverty has in the United States. Some pundits suggested Senator Wellstone as a possible candidate for the Democratic nomination for President in 2000. Following his prepared remarks, Senator Wellstone took questions from the audience gathered at Howard University. close
