Senator Mitch McConnell and others criticized the federal government’s practice of awarding federal highway contracts based on racial criteria. He stressed that he would ensure a vote on the portion of transportation reauthorization which requires not less than ten percent of the worth of federal contracts go to disadvantaged businesses. The other participants stressed the unjust, unnecessary and wasteful nature of the program. close
