The Census Bureau’s Economic and Statistics Division released a report today on U.S. income, poverty and health insurance coverage for 1996, including a breakdown on the states. Doctor Weinberg said that median household income, adjusted for inflation, increased 1.2 percent to $35,242. The number of poor and the poverty rate were unchanged at 36.5 million poor and 13.7 percent. The number of persons without health insurance coverage also remained unchanged at 15.6 percent. Doctor Weinberg took questions from the press. close
