Secretary of State Madeleine Albright announced the resumption of peace talks between Israeli and Palestinian leaders. Negotiations for peace in the Middle East have been on hold for six months. Following talks with the Israeli foreign minister and the PLO representative, Secretary Albright said that both sides agreed they must take the necessary measures to prevent acts of terrorism. The two sides agreed to resume negotiations October 6 in the interim committees established to implement the interim agreement. After her prepared statement, she took questions from the press. close
