Democratic gubernatorial nominee Wilder, who would be the first black elected governor in the nation, debated Republican Nominee Coleman. Key issues in the campaign included abortion and drugs. Mr. Wilder portrayed his opponent as being out of step with the majority of voters because of his anti-abortion stance while Mr. Coleman maintained Wilder is soft on crime and drugs. The debate was moderated by a journalist with questions asked by three others. close
