Poindexter testifies that President Reagan signed a retroactive finding, prepared by the CIA, concerning the sale of arms to Iran. Poindexter also says that he destroyed the finding when the Justice Department investigation was initiated because it could be politically embarassing to the president. Poindexter testifies that he did not tell President Reagan about the diversion of arms sale profits to the contras in order to provide the president with “deniability.” Poindexter describes the diversion as implementation of the well established Reagan policy of supporting the contras. close
