Librarian of Congress James Billington announced the 25 films which he and the National Film Preservation Board selected as worthy of preservation by the film industry for their cultural, historical or aesthetic value. The films included, “Knute Rockne, All American,” "The Bridge on the River Kwai," “The Great Dictator,” "West Side Story," and newsreel footage of the Hindenburg disaster. The President of the Association of Moving Image Archivists Andrea Kalas talked about continuing efforts to improve film archiving technology. Library of Congress Motion Picture Broadcasting Chief David Francis and the Library of Congress' Moving Image Section Chief Pat Lougney also spoke. The participants responded to audience members' questions. close
