Duane Ackerman, President & CEO of Bell South Corporation, discussed the effects of the 1996 Telecommunications Act on consumers. He said that the way the Federal Communications Commission has implemented the legislation has created an “industrial policy” which is not customer-oriented. He pointed out that revenues from data are growing five times faster than revenues regular voice networks. He believes that everyday consumers will be brushed aside in favor of businesses. After his prepared remarks, he took questions from the audience. close
