Mr. Berger briefed reporters on the administration’s response to an agreement reached between Iraq and Russia to allow U.N. weapons inspectors back into the country. He stressed that the five permanent members of the U.N. Security Council continue to insist on full compliance with Security Council resolutions, especially full access for weapons inspectors. He also said the U.S. will continue to support economic sanctions and maintain a strong military presence in the region to make sure Iraq allows unfettered inspections.
