Poindexter testifies that he did not give Oliver North direct orders to lie to Congress, but that he did expect North to withold information and that it was necessary to do so to protect the operation and avoid stricter regulations. Poindexter is questioned about the Reagan administration’s denial of Poindexter’s claim that the president would have approved the diversion of funds to the contras if he had known of it.
