President Clinton announced that he had named Bill Lann Lee as acting Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights. He stated that he hoped this would allow Mr. Lee to prove himself in order to achieve later confirmation by the Senate. President Clinton noted that it was the 206th anniversary of the Bill of Rights and that protecting citizens against discrimination upholds the spirit of the Bill of Rights. close
