Prior to introducing Mr. Sweeney, Rev. Jackson talked about the impact of sports and black athletes on the U.S. economy. Mr. Sweeney asked for a strong and shared prosperity for all workers as a way to strengthen the economy. He described the efforts of labor unions to help workers make the most of their lives and deplored the increasing gap in the U.S. between the “haves” and “have nots.” He noted that Martin Luther King, Jr.'s work for social equality is still unfinished. After his prepared remarks, Mr. Sweeney took questions from the audience. Rev. Jackson ended the session with a prayer. close
