Holocaust Germany: The Next Generation Panelists discussed Mr. Schlink’s novel The Reader, a fictional account of an illiterate girl in Nazi Germany who learns to read while a guard in a concentration camp. The panel used the book to ask how German citizens could cope or tolerate the Nazi persecution of the Jews.
