The U.S. Conference of Mayors Winter meeting began with a video about the desegregation of Little Rock High School in 1954, African Development Foundation Chairman, Ernest Green, one of the “Little Rock Nine,” talked about his experiences and about the continuing struggle for black equality. Housing and Urban Development Secretary Andrew Cuomo spoke about the administration’s agenda for urban issues for the next year. Defense Secretary William Cohen talked about the modern U.S. military. Commerce Secretary William Daley discussed international trade and its effect on cities. He also talked about the upcoming census in 2000. Representative Sherwood Boehlert (R-NY) talked about environmental legislation in Congress. close
