(Another in a series of rhetorical riddles)

Processes, by any other name, is all the rage. The speaker is not merely mispronouncing processes, but is attempting to apply a rule reserved for irregular nouns to a word that, given the extra last syllable, is clearly inflected uneventfully. Now we all know you can't have your cake and eat it too. Either the plural remains three syllables and is pronounced as expected, or it never gains a third. If the speaker insists on treating process irregularly, then he needs to use the imaginary plural, proceze (see crises). close
