Senator McConnell Presses Democrats Not to Block CR Over Miners' Health Benefits

With just hours to go before the government could face a shutdown, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) urges Senate Democrats to drop their opposition to passage of the continuing resolution unless they get a one-year extension on health care benefits for miners. The current bill includes a four-month extension. Democrats say they would take a one-year extension while Congress seeks a permanent fix. The House passed the measure yesterday on a large bipartisan majority. close
