Joint Chiefs of Staff Chair General Dunford says, "No decision has been made with regard to the deployment of additional forces to Afghanistan." However, he says Defense Secretary James Mattis will announce any increase in troop levels as part of a larger strategy review in the region. Specifically responding to reports of a 4,000-strong increase on the ground in Afghanistan, he does say that there is a request from the commander to thicken the "advise assist effort" in the country. close
