During the Washington National Cathedral memorial service for the late Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger talks about negotiations to end the Vietnam War and the opportunity to bring John McCain – a prisoner of war at the time – back home. "When his Vietnamese captives, during the final phase of negotiations, offered to release John so that he could return with me on the official plane that had brought me to Hanoi--against all my instincts, I thanked them for the offer, but refused it. I wondered what John would say when we finally met," says Mr. Kissinger, adding that when he later did meet McCain, the former Navy aviator told him: "Thank you for saving my honor." close
