House Minority Leader Says State of the Union Should Take Place in the House

House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy says the president should deliver his State of the Union address in the House chamber as is tradition. "I think the speaker asking not to have the State of the Union is playing politics...we should have respect for both offices," Leader McCarthy says. The White House says they are moving forward with preparations for the speech on Tuesday despite a request from Speaker Pelosi to reschedule it until after the partial government shutdown ends. close
