Fed Chair Powell Says Economy Will Recover Most of Lost Growth From Shutdown

Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell says he expects the economy to make back most of the lost growth experienced during the five-week shutdown in the second quarter. Asked if there would be any long-term effects, Mr. Powell says that a longer or second shutdown could result in "a loss of confidence in our ability to make policy in the U.S." He also makes note that Congress is considering legislative options to prevent future shutdowns and says that such a move would be "profitable." close
