In an at-times emotional statement at a Senate Armed Services subcommittee hearing on sexual assault prevention, Arizona Republican Senator Martha McSally, who served 26 years in the Air Force, tells colleagues and witnesses that she was raped by a superior officer. She says she did not report the sexual assault at the time because she didn't trust the system and that she felt ashamed and confused by what had happened to her. When she finally disclosed the assault, she say she was "horrified" at how it was handled and that she almost quit in despair, saying, "I felt like the system was raping me all over again." close
