Prior to a vote on final passage on reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), New York Republican Elise Stefanik proposes a clean extension of the law until 2020 to allow members to work out a compromise on a longer reauthorization. Michigan Democratic Representative Debbie Dingell argues against the proposal. Thirty-three Republicans joined Democrats in passing the bill. Minnesota Democrat Collin Peterson was the lone Democrat to vote against the measure. close
