Rivlin who died at age 88 on May 14. Rivlin was the founding director of the Congressional Budget Office, among other things. But Rep. Shalala also reflected on their decades of trekking and camping in locations around the world. Rep. Shalala concluded: You learn a lot about people when you share a narrow ledge in a rainstorm on some of the highest mountains in the world. Alice was tenacious, brave and cheerful—and the kindest, nicest person I have ever known. Her mentoring younger colleagues and helping people of all walks of life with their challenges was legendary. This was more than a life well lived—she was a patriot who loved her country and her city and served both with extraordinary skill and passion.
