Before welcoming the Portugese defense minister at the Pentagon, Acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan speaks to reporters about the escalation in tensions between the U.S. and Iran following attacks on two oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman. Secretary Shanahan tells reporters: "we have an international situation in the Middle East. It's not a U.S. situation. The focus is to build international consensus to this international problem." He also says he is working with General McKenzie, the commander in the region, to make sure he has the resources he needs, and he will work with push out additional intelligence on the attacks on the oil tankers. close
