White House National Economic Council Director Larry Kudlow responds to questions about the economic impact of President Trump's newly announced 10 percent tariffs on Chinese-made goods such as smart phones, toys, and apparel items. Mr. Kudlow says he expects the impact on markets to be small, that consumer spending and the stock market remain strong, and that the administration is now looking at how the new tariffs, which go into effect on September 1, will be structured as consumers gear up for the holiday shopping season. Mr. Kudlow also says that China is bearing most of the burden, has had to slash prices and is seeing an exodus of manufacturers that they are unlikely to get back. close
