Student Activist Joshua Wong Testifies on Capitol Hill

Pro-democracy student activist Joshua Wong testifies before the Congressional-Executive Committee on China about the recent protests in Hong Kong. In his opening statement, Wong warns lawmakers about Beijing's intentions regarding the city once ruled by Britain. "Today, we are approaching dangerously close to one country, one system. The present state of affairs reflect Beijing's inability to understand, let alone govern, a free society," Wong says. Wong, along with other activists, is in Washington to lobby Congress to pass the Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act of 2019, a bill that would sanction individuals who suppress basic freedoms in Hong Kong. close
