Former Vice President Biden on U.S.-Russia Relations

Former Vice President Joe Biden talked about the article he co-wrote on Russia with Michael Carpenter. The article, “How to Stand Up to the Kremlin: Defending Democracy Against Its Enemies,” was published in the January/February 2018 issue of Foreign Affairs. Both talked about current relations with the Kremlin, Russia’s influence in the Middle East, and the foreign policy approach under the Obama administration. Mr. Biden in his comments said that he and former President Obama asked Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to sign a bipartisan statement about Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election but that Senator McConnell would not do so. Later, Vice President Biden shared how the hardest part of leaving the vice presidency was not having access to Air Force 2 and not receiving the detailed daily national security briefings. close
