Each candidate took the stage for about 10 minutes to make their case as to why they should be president, citing platform positions from gun control and prison reform, to climate change and health care. The event, which began in 1972 and was originally known as the Harkin Steak Fry, is named former Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA). It was re-named the Polk County Democrats Annual steak Fry in 2017. With over 12,000 in attendance, this was the largest crowd for the event.
