With Vice President Pence, Secretary of State Pompeo and National Security Adviser O'Brien by his side, President Trump announces that Turkey has informed the U.S. it is ending combat operations in northern Syria and has agreed to a permanent ceasefire in the region. The president says he will now lift sanctions imposed by the Treasury Department on October 14 following the Turkish incursion in the Kurdish stronghold. He says he reserves the right to reimpose those sanctions if the ceasefire doesn't last. Defending his decision to withdraw U.S. troops from the region, the president says its now up to others to step up. "Let someone else fight over this long-bloodstained sand," he says. close
