North Carolina Republican Representative speaks about his friendship with the late Maryland Democratic Representative Elijah Cummings at a congressional memorial ceremony at the U.S. Capitol. Meadows says he was "privileged" to call Cummings "a dear friend." "He had a smile that would consume his whole face, you know that, but he also had eyes that would pierce through anybody that was standing in his way," Meadows says. Cummings, who is the first African-American politician to receive the honor of lying in state at the Capitol died October 17 after battling a series of health problems. He was 68. close
