In his first appearance before a congressional committee since the fatal crashes of two 737 Max jets, Boeing CEO Dennis Muilenberg is pressed by Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) on the certification process and whether he was aware of an emails from Chief Technical Pilot Mark Forkner about removing the anti-stall system (MCAS) from the flight manual and misleading regulators. "Those pilots never had a chance. These loved ones never had a chance," Blumenthal says of the crash victims. "They were in flying coffins." Muilenburg responds, saying that he doesn't understand what Forkner meant at the time. When pressed on whether he would commit to reforms of the certification process, Muilenberg would only say that he would take a "hard look" at proposed reforms and would commit to participating in the process and offering Boeing's input. close
