Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer charges that his Republican counterpart, Senator Mitch McConnell, "stepped over the line" when he predicted at a weekly news conference Tuesday that if a Senate impeachment trial were held now, it would not result in the president's removal from office. Senator Schumer also criticized Judiciary Committee Chair Senator Lindsey Graham's comments that he wouldn't bother to read the transcripts of impeachment inquiry depositions after E.U. Ambassador Gordon Sondland revised his earlier testimony to say he now recalled telling an aid to Ukrainian President Volodymr Zelensky at a September 1 meeting in Poland that military aid was contingent upon an investigation of Joe and Hunter Biden. Senator Schumer says Senator Graham "knows better." The Democratic leader also condemns Senator Rand Paul's call to disclose the identity of the whistleblower and says all senators should support federal whistleblower protections. close
