The House has voted 230-192 to pass a bill giving the federal government power to negotiate drug prices with pharmaceutical companies. President Trump has promised to veto the measure. The House Bill allows the Health and Human Services Department to negotiate the price of over 200 drugs and requires manufacturers to offer them to private insurance companies at agreed-on prices. It also requires manufacturers to pay rebates to Medicare if prices rise above inflation. The Senate is working on its own drug pricing bill. Here's a portion of the House debate featuring Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy, Democratic Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, and other rank-and-file members. close
