Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards says the surge in confirmed coronavirus cases in his state is largely due to a logjam in testing. There have been 2,726 newly confirmed cases of the virus, bringing the total in the state to over 9,100. The governor says that the disease is in all of Lousiana's parishes. He says that based on modeling discussed at the White House earlier this week showing between 100,000 and 200,000 deaths nationwide, Louisiana could expect to see around 1,834 people succumb to the disease. The governor also announces he is extending the stay-at-home order until April 30 and urges residents to comply with the order to help curb the spread of the virus and limit the number of deaths. close
