Republicans to Take Up Police Reform Bill Next Week

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell announces plans to take up the police reform bill authored by Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) early next week. The bill provides incentives to police departments who don't use choke holds and provide data when a police officer uses force or a "no knock" warrant. The bill also provides access to grants for body cams and training. It also makes lynching a federal crime and increases penalties for false reporting. It also creates commissions to examine the plight of black men and boys and conducts a review of the criminal justice system. close
