Texas Republican Senator Jon Cornyn welcomes the Trump administration's reversal on cutting federal funds for testing sites in his home state and to extend the funding for an additional two weeks. The decision comes as Texas sees a massive surge in the number of coronavirus cases across the state. Senator Cornyn says cutting the funding for the testing sites would have been "a tremendous risk, an unnecessary risk...and would have left the state without valuable information about the growing number of infections." The senator argues that the state needs more time to take on the responsibility for the testing sites. He also says that the nation needs a strategy for testing and finding people who are asymptomatic in order to manage and prevent further spread of the deadly virus. close
