John Lewis (D-GA), the late congressman and civil rights activist, across Selma, Alabama’s Edmund Pettus Bridge a final time as part of his procession to the state capitol in Montgomery. On March 7, 1965, Rep. Lewis was one of many demonstrators beaten by police as they marched from Selma to Montgomery in what has become known as Bloody Sunday. close
