The House Oversight and Reform Committee held a virtual hearing to consider legislation that would create a national cyber director in the Executive Office of the President to streamline the federal government’s response to cyberattacks across agencies. Witnesses included Representatives James Langevin (D-RI) and Mike Gallagher (R-WI), who both serve as commissioners of the U.S. Cyberspace Solarium Commission. Other witnesses included cyber and national security experts as well as former U.S. representative and Intelligence Committee Chair Mike Rogers (R) and former Obama administration Cybersecurity Coordinator Michael Daniel. Other topics included current cybersecurity threats posed to the U.S., election security, intellectual property (IP) theft, and the cyber actions of China, Russia, and North Korea. close
