With the number of daily COVID-19 deaths in the U.S. now surpassing 3,000 (more than on either 9/11 or Pearl Harbor), President-elect Joe Biden calls for presidential leadership now to help fight the spread of the deadly virus. He also welcomes Thursday's 17-4 vote by the FDA Advisory Committee recommending the Pfizer BioNTech vaccine, saying people should have confidence in it and that there has been no political interference in the process. The president-elect also reiterates his own plan to tackle the pandemic once he's sworn in on January 20, including asking the public to mask up for the first 100 days to slow the spread and flatten the curve, administering 100 million shots, and calling on Congress to provide the necessary funding to safely reopen most of the nation's schools. close
