Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin offers reassurance to NATO allies on U.S. policy toward Afghanistan, saying the "U.S. will not undertake a hasty or disorderly withdrawal from Afghanistan that puts their forces or the alliances reputation at risk...there will be no surprises." Secretary Austin says that while the the U.S. is mindful of the looming May deadline the Biden administration is conducting "a rigorous interagency review." He goes on to say that the violence in the war-torn country remains too high and that more progress needs to be made in the Afghan-led negotiations. To that end he urges "all parties to choose the path towards peace. close
