In a speech defending his $2.5 trillion infrastructure proposal, President Biden lays out what's at stake and what will happen if America doesn't invest in its infrastructure and its own future like China is. "Do you think China is waiting around to invest in its infrastructure?...I promise you, they are not waiting, but they're counting on American democracy to be too slow, too limited and too divided to keep pace." The president goes on to say that "this generation will be marked by a competition between democracies and autocracies." And he says "the autocracies are betting on the democracies not being able to generate the kind of unity needed to make decisions to get in that race. We can't afford to prove them right," the president warns. "We have to show the world, but much more important, we have to show ourselves that democracy works, that we can come together on the big things." close
