During her confirmation hearing before the Senate Finance Committee Chiquita Brooks-LaSure, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid administrator nominee, spoke about being the first black woman to lead CMS. She credits the "strong, smart black women and men" who came before her, saying that "too often they weren't given the opportunity to live up to their full God-given potential, but their selflessness, often silent sacrifice paved the way for me and so many other women of color. Today I am proud that my daughter can see her mother nominated by the president of the United States to lead such a critical agency and know that she can be anything she wants to be." close
