Maine Republican Senator Susan Collins says she used to consider the CDC to be the Gold Standard, but that she doesn't anymore, attributing her misgivings to "conflicting and confusing" advice from the health agency. Senator Collins points to three examples: American Federation of Teachers involvement in school reopening guidelines, mask-wearing guidelines for outdoors, and guidelines for summer camps, which have been called draconian and unworkable. Dr. Walensky responds and explains changes made to some of the guidelines, including on school reopenings. She also points out that COVID-19 daily infections still remain higher than a year ago. close
