Northern Command Commander Air Force General Glen VanHerck says that up to 50,000 Afghan refugees are expected at U.S. military installations by mid-September. Almost half that number, 21,000, have already arrived and are being housed in Wisconsin, Virginia, New Jersey, and Texas. He also says that other installations could be required in the weeks ahead. And he says the Homeland Security Department is vetting all Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) applicants and other vulnerable Afghans. close
