Outgoing Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam (D) gives his final State of the Commonwealth address in Richmond. He touches upon the issue of teaching about the history of racial issues in America. "For too long we've been comfortable telling a story about Virginia's history that left out a lot of people, and a lot of uncomfortable facts. But we cannot pick and choose history based on how it makes us feel." He goes on, saying, "We need to understand the full and true story, and put a Black child's right to have her history included in our textbooks." His comments come amid ongoing debates about Critical Race Theory and how the history of racial issues are taught in public schools. close
