Kyiv Mayor Pleads to Blinken for More Defensive Weapons

Secretary of State Antony Blinken and the German foreign minister directly reiterated to the Kyiv mayor their commitment to Ukraine's peace and security at the Munich Security Conference. The face-to-face exchange happened after the mayor pleaded for more defensive weapons during the Q&A portion of a panel the secretary of state and foreign minister were participating in. The Russia-Ukraine situation was a top topic but other topics included U.S.-German relations, the pandemic and climate change. The conference comes as the world waits to see whether Russia invades Ukraine. Vice President Kamala Harris, Secretary Blinken, other members of the administration and a group of bipartisan lawmakers are in Germany for the conference. close
