Secretary of State Antony Blinken reiterated Thursday that the U.S.'s "One China" policy has not changed.

"Our approach has been consistent across decades and administrations," he said in remarks from the State Department. "The United States remains committed to our One China policy."

His clarification follows President Biden's comments in Asia earlier this week when he said the U.S. would intervene military if China attacks Taiwan. The comments drew a rebuke from Beijing and seemingly made less ambiguous the U.S.'s longstanding policy of "strategic ambiguity" towards the island nation of 23 million.

The secretary said he remains concerned about China's "growing coercion," including trying to choke off Taiwan's relations with other countries as well as its engagement in "provocative rhetoric" and increased military activity.
