President Biden said Tuesday he takes classified documents "seriously" and he was "surprised to learn" that government records had been taken to the Penn Biden Center in Washington, DC, where he kept a private office after serving as vice president.

The documents were discovered on Nov. 2 by personal attorneys for the president who were packing files in a locked closet to prepare to vacate the office space. The attorneys immediately notified the National Archives, which took possession of the documents the following day.

"I don't know what's in the documents," the president added. "My lawyers have not suggested I ask what documents they were. I've turned over the boxes — they've turned over the boxes to the Archives and we're cooperating fully." close
