Cable and satellite television executives testified about their industry’s customer service and billing practices. Senators presented stories from personal and constituents' experiences, and asked what each witness was doing to address ongoing consumer confusion and frustration with service package options, equipment, and billing rates.

Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen presented her semiannual report on monetary policy to the House Financial Services Committee. 

Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) and other House Republicans spoke to reporters about their policy agenda if Republicans win the White House in November. 

This was the fourth component of the party’s “A Better Way” plan unveiled in January 2016.

House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI and other Republican leaders announced an agenda to tackle what they called “burdensome government regulations.” Speaker Ryan also addressed comments President Obama made earlier that day in which he called the term “radical Islamic terrorism” a political talking point rather than a strategy to combat terrorism. The speaker disagreed with the president, saying America is at war with radical Islam.

Leaders of organizations representing manufacturers and the Department of Energy were among the witnesses testifying at a hearing on current and future energy consumption regulations for electric appliances. Topics included the impact of regulations on consumer pricing, and potential decreases in efficiency of appliances such as dishwashers.
